Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA)
Chicago's largest marathon training program. Wednesday track workouts at 6:30 PM, Saturday/Sunday long runs from 11 locations. Pace groups from 7:00 to 13:00/mile. Includes entry to the Ready to Run 20-miler in September.
If you're training for Chicago and don't know where to start, CARA is the answer most locals give you. The Saturday long runs draw hundreds of runners across 11 suburban locations and the pace groups cover almost every runner. I've run CARA races, the organization is solid.

Boutique marathon and half marathon training programs. Coached sessions 2-3x/week, Final Surge plans, supported 20-miler, gear storage, and post-run coffee. Store discounts and early gear access.
Edge Athlete Lounge

Genuinely elite. My neighbor is a 2:16 marathoner and this is where he trains. This is a racing team, not a training group.
Nameless Track Club
Friday morning track sessions on the lakefront. Competitive but welcoming. This is a workout, not a casual jog.
One of the more searched clubs on this page and worth knowing about. Nameless is built for post-collegiate runners with unfinished business, people who finished college athletics and aren't ready to stop competing. Friday morning sessions on the lakefront starting around 5-6am, with separate groups training for everything from the mile to Berlin and Chicago marathons simultaneously. More autonomy than a structured program, more intensity than a casual club. The YouTube channel gives you a real look at what the sessions are like.
Lakeview Run Club (LVRC)
Up to 5 miles, 7-13 min/mile plus walking options. Post-run social at Rosco's. One of the most active clubs in the neighborhood with Tuesday evening and Saturday morning runs.
Gold Coast Run Club
Women-led club founded in 2023. Paces 9:00-11:30 min/mile in a very welcoming atmosphere. Friday mornings and Saturday mornings, perfect if you want to make running friends fast.
Frontrunners Chicago
LGBTQ+ running organization established in 1982 and one of the oldest in Chicago. Welcoming community for queer runners and allies.
Tortugas Run Club
Founded by David Ruiz, welcomes all paces (tortugas = tortoises). Sunday 10 AM at Harrison Park. Latino running community that is very welcoming and high energy.
Venados Running Club
Founded in 1981 to serve the Pilsen neighborhood. Latino running crew with a mix of serious and social runners. Strong presence at local races and marathon training crews.
Men Run Deez Streets

Self-described as a drinking club with a running problem. Weekly 3-5 mile trails through city streets, alleys, and parks followed by social ceremonies called circles. All paces, all ages, 21+ only. Not your typical running group.

A good example of what suburban run clubs do well. Consistent Saturday morning group, Prairie Path access for long runs, and a genuine neighborhood feel. They roll past my neighborhood every week without fail.
Glen Ellyn Runners Club
Established 1999 with 250+ members and year-round training programs. One of the most active western suburb clubs.
